-

KUCHING: Assistant Minister of Transportation Datuk Dr Jerip Susil is glad to note that there are now many Bidayuhs who are well educated and have become professionals.

However, he pointed out that more needs to be done to produce more Bidayuh intellectuals in order to progress with other races.

“In the field of education, we ( Bidayuh) are not quite behind, particularly among our younger generation, but we ought to do more to stress on the importance of education among our younger generation,” Dr Jerip said on Saturday night, when officiating at the 117th anniversary of Kpg Emperoh Jambu, at a local hotel here.

He cited Kpg Emperoh Jambu, which has produced many intellectuals and professionals.

Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman, said the Bidayuhs also ought to think on how to progress on par with other races.

“One important aspect that we should think to do is to increase our economic status by upgrading our skills and knowledge,” he pointed out.

He hoped that the women bureau and village security and development committee (JKKK) can think of ways to increase the economy of the villagers by intensifying the cottage industry and carrying out charitable activities in the village.

Dr Jerip also commended the formation of Persatuan Biperoh Kuching to unite the eight Biperoh clans.

Present were Dr Jerip’s wife Datin Lee Chai Fong, Sarawak Administrative Officer ( SAO) of Padawan sub- district office Rangan Jamang, Bidayuh community leader for Kuching division Temenggong Austin Dimin, Penghulu Richard Daho and Kpg Emperoh Jambu village chief Daniel Jita.
