KAPIT: Kapit Hospital opened its doors to hundreds of visitors on Saturday for its annual open day aimed at fostering closer ties with the local community.

Visitors comprising students and teachers, civil servants, community leaders, nongovernmental organisation representatives and members of the public were given a tour of the hospital old and new wings by staff.

A number of activities were organised as part of the open day, while booths were also set up to disseminate healthcare-related information.

Kapit Hospital Visitors Board chairman Joseph Jinggut, who officiated at the open day, said the event allowed the public to get to know the services provided by the hospital.

Meanwhile, event organising chairman Dr John Chieng, disclosed in his speech that from January to October this year, Kapit recorded some 230 locals who were treated for various stages of stress and mental healthrelated issues.

“Among some of the common symptoms are anxiety, inability to sleep well and inability to focus. Previously, these patients were required to go to Sibu Hospital for treatment, but they are now able to visit the specialist clinic here ( Kapit Hospital),” he said.

Kapit Hospital director Dr Hii King Ching was among those present during the open day.
