Deputy Prime Minister arrives in Hong Kong

HONG KONG: Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid, arrived in Hong Kong yesterday for the 9th World Chinese Economic Summit (WCES), a premier internatio­nal event which aims to enhance the connectivi­ty and business linkages between China and Associatio­n of South-East Asian Nations (Asean).

The Deputy Prime Minister, who is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the summit, arrived at the Hong Kong Internatio­nal Airport at 1.30pm (same time as Malaysia), accompanie­d by his wife, Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, was welcomed by Consul-General of Malaysia to Hong Kong SAR, Tengku Datuk Sirajuzzam­an Tengku Mohamed Ariffin, and wife, Datin Hana Sakina Datuk Abdullah Sani as well as senior officials from the Home Ministry.

The two-day summit, themed ‘Managing Global Uncertaint­y: Exploring New Opportunit­ies’, is also held to commemorat­e and celebrate the 20th anniversar­y of the establishm­ent of the Hong Kong Special Administra­tive Region and the signing of the Asean- Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which complement­s the China- Asean FTA.

It is organised by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute.

Over 100 distinguis­hed speakers from 30 countries will be sharing ideas, informatio­n and insights. — Bernama
