KUCHING: Any political party or politician aspiring to contest in the Serian parliamentary seat in the coming general election must address the issue of high cost of living faced by the local people.

A life member of Area Farmers Organisation (AFO) Serian, Senior William Rade, said the farming community in Serian Division needs greater agricultural development.

He chided a certain political party for claiming to have brought development to Serian.

He said the party failed the mandate of the voters, especially the poor farming community, whose living standard has not changed for the better in the last 25 years.

“Thus, there is nothing to shout about when election is around the corner. They have no proven and track record. They are riding on the performance of another component party which I should say has done a tremendous job,” he said.

He thus urged the farming community to cast their votes properly and to choose a person who is hard-working and one who can help them to improve their living standard, at least on a par, with their counterparts in urban areas.

Thus, there is nothing to shout about when election is around the corner. They have no proven and track record. They are riding on the performance of another component party which I should say has done a tremendous job.

“The farming community must not to be hoodwinked by the rhetoric and hollow political statements and promises made,” he said.

He added that Serian was in real need of proper and comprehensive, integrated development, be it in agriculture and other development.

“Serian Division has a potential to become a food production centre in the state because of it proximity to the state capital.

“Most farmers in Serian are registered members of area farmers organisation (AFO),” he said.
