Promotions will see influx of foreign divers

-

LABUAN: More foreign tourists especially scuba divers are expected to visit Malaysia this year and in years to come to explore the country’s popular and new diving sites.

In fact, Labuan-born Tourism Malaysia Ambassador for the diving segment ( 2017-2019) Clement Lee said he believed that with the constant and aggressive promotions, Malaysia would one day become the favourite scuba diving site for divers across the globe.

“We are upbeat about the influx of foreign divers to explore our diving sites that are being promoted aggressively, it is a matter of letting them know what we have.

“We have beautiful and scenic island, heaven on top, paradise below, and these assets should be well protected and preserve for continuous promotional efforts.”

Lee said this to Bernama upon his return from Istanbul, Turkey, after promoting Malaysia’s iconic diving sites to Turkish diving

He said the ‘biggie’ gentle giant whale shark and the school of barracuda were also among the attractions in the country’s ocean that were capable of giving that heart-pumping moment for divers.

“When I was in Istanbul, I also highlighted the sandy beach island of Pulau Perhentian with its beautiful sea fan and soft corals, nudibranchs and sharks; the Lang Tengah island with its amazing marine fishes, rare blue and healthy colourful corals and shipwrecks that are still intact; the blue sky, white sparkling sandy beaches and turquoise water of Pulau Redang; and also Tengggol with its spectacular rocky outcrop formation and the underwater walls like those in Sipadan Island.

“On Aug 2 this year, we have encountered two different whale sharks with about 14 and 16 footer long in our first and second dives in Tenggol,” Lee said.

He said his talk also touched on wreck sites in Sarawak waters, the hammerhead sharks, white tip shark, manta rays, dog-tooth tuna and giant parrot fish in Sabah waters, and the iconic Sipadan island.

“I also told the divers in Istanbul that if they like wreck diving, they can to go to the duty-free-island of Labuan as there are four beautiful ship wrecks, colonialised by abundance of marine lives,” he added.
