-

MIRI: In an effort to improve students’ discipline SK Senadin launched a discipline formation programme through reading recently.

The programme called ‘ Baca Untuk Dunia Ilmiah’ ( Budi) is conducted daily in the morning before the teaching and learning process ( P & P) begins.

Its headmaster James Nibong said this discipline formation programme involves all students from year one to year six.

“Through this programme, we hope reading would become a culture among students as well as improve academic performance, the Literacy and Numeracy Screening ( LINUS) mastery and empowering the Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca ( Nilam) programme.

“The Budi programme is expected to reduce negative elements such as fighting, damaging school property and playing before class,” he said in his speech during the launch of the programme at SKS recently.

Also present were co-curriculum senior assistant Masnah Sulong and Parent-Teachers Association chairperson ( PTA) Linda Jalak.

James said to inculcate the reading habit, students are encouraged to come early to read.

“Emphasis is also placed on the appreciation of the school’s vision and mission as pupils are required to recite this vision and mission when the programme is completed.

“Hopefully this programme will be successful and be continued next year,” he said.

During the launch the school presented prizes to classes that demonstrated good discipline throughout the week.

Appreciation was given to class teachers who are committed in implementing the programme.
