-

SIBU: A total of 110 Hi-Y Club members have registered for a youth leadership training camp at Sibu YMCA Camp Resort on Nov 25-26. The members are from SMK Sacred Heart, SMK Methodist, SMK Tung Hua and SMK St Elizabeth.

“The purpose of the training camp is to provide an opportunity for youths to learn how to establish vibrant teamwork. Participants will also be exposed to various activities that will test their physical endurance, which is good for both mental and physical conditioning,” YMCA Sibu president Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau told a press conference yesterday.

“This will go a long way to groom and build up the younger generation.” Other objectives include learning how to accommodate multiple cultures by seeking common ground, establishing a sense of justice and mission, and having courage to assume social responsibility.

“We want to involve more young people. Hence, we hope that by organising this sort of event, we can attract more young people to join our association,” added Lau. Camp organising chairman Dr Lawrence Law said participants are mostly Form 5 and 6 students. He said Bobo Wong Tiing Kit of Sibu Toastmasters Club will be the camp speaker.

Wong joined Toastmasters International in 1999 and has served as club president, area governor, and division governor. He was awarded the Distinguished Toastmaster Award (DTM) in 2009 and 2010.
