Land identified for Communal Reserve

THE state identified 804,826 hectares to be gazetted as Communal Reserve for agricultur­e under Section 6 of the State Land Code.

Minister of Urban Developmen­t and Natural Resources Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said out of the figure, 643,017 hectares have been gazetted under the new Native Customary Rights ( NCR) initiative.

The second phase of the new NCR initiative will involve the issuance of individual lots, a total of 16,351 individual lots (17,776 hectares) have been surveyed to- date.

“A total of 6,024 lots ( 5,261 hectares) received land titles under Section 18 of the State Land Code,” said Awang Tengah during his ministry’s windingup speech yesterday.

He said his ministry will be undertakin­g a number of key initiative­s in urban renewal which included formulatin­g the State Urban Implementa­tion Guideline to guide agencies in implementi­ng urban renewal projects and programmes in a systematic and integrated manner.

The ministry will also establish a digital platform for the creation and sharing of urban indicators and database for planning, decision making and monitoring purposes under the State Big Data Initiative.

“Presently such data is not readily available but scattered among various agencies,” he added.

Awang Tengah revealed that to improve service delivery and in line with advance in digital technology, the State Planning Authority (SPA) is on track to implement technology­driven processes to facilitate the preparatio­n of structure and local plans as well as other planning functions.

SPA will manage and integrate data from government department­s and agencies such as Public Works Department, Drainage and Irrigation Department, Sesco and local authoritie­s to come up with a functional 3D City Modelling System for fast and informed decision-making.

On another note, he said the Land Custody and Developmen­t Authority ( Pelita) will be spearheadi­ng the Food Production Zone in Kuala Baram which spans 132 hectares, divided into 23 lots.

Pelita will submit an amended proposal for the developmen­t of Simunjan New Township to the State Planning Council.

The new township, he revealed, will include other components such as housing, government offices, building facilities for small entreprene­urs (cottage industry) and convention­al shops.

In reply to Lo Khere Chiang ( BN-Batu Kitang) on the amendment of the Strata Titles Ordinance 1995, he said the government is in the process of improving the ordinance by taking gated and guarded community scheme into account.
