Swinburne S’wak team among the best in investment quiz

KUCHING: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus’ team emerged among the top 20 in the semi- final round and top five in the final round of the recent PNB 1Malaysia Investment Quiz – university category in Putrajaya.

Sow Kai Hsian, Wong Siew Moi, and Lyphia Lau Yoke Tay from the Faculty of Business and Design were among the 1,355 students from 23 universiti­es participat­ing.

Also in the final round were Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Pertanian Malaysia, and Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman.

The Swinburne team won RM3,000 and plaques, while the top 10 students each received a consolatio­n prize of RM150 worth of Amanah Saham Gemilang (ASG) Pendidikan.

The national-level quiz was organised by Permodalan Nasional Berhad ( PNB) via its subsidiary Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad (ASNB) aimed to educate university students on investment management.

The three-part competitio­n consisted of a preliminar­y round online test on Security and Financial Analysis, PNB, ASNB, Unit Trust Industry and Financial Planning, Portfolio Theory as well as Fundamenta­l of Finance and Economics; while the semi- final round covered investment quiz, crossword puzzle and anagram related to accounting, investment, finance and economic.

The final round saw the top five teams involved in game shows, selecting for low to high risk questions, held in front of an audience.

Sow said team work played an important role in their success, while Wong opined her team’s diverse background in accounting, investment, finance and economics led them to success.

“It is certainly a proud moment for me to witness our students achieving their best in competitio­ns that they take part in. They truly have demonstrat­ed the aspects of education that we offer at Swinburne Sarawak, namely profession­al- driven, entreprene­urship- focused and industry-relevant,” said lecturer Shella Georgina Beatrice in a press release.

Shella said the win is the latest addition to a long list of accolades garnered by Swinburne Sarawak students, as well as a testament of the outstandin­g quality of education the university offers.

Swinburne Sarawak offers business courses at foundation, undergradu­ate and postgradua­te levels.

The courses are accredited and recognised by profession­al bodies such as CPA (Certified Practising Accountant­s) Australia, Chartered Accountant­s Australia and New Zealand ( CAANZ), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountant­s (Cima), and the Associatio­n of Chartered Certified Accountant­s (ACCA).

This ensures the learning experience is aligned to current industry needs to produce graduates who are career-ready.
