KUCHING: Semiconductor manufacturer X-FAB Sarawak Sdn Bhd ( X-FAB Sarawak) broke ground for its administration office extension project yesterday in a simple ceremony held at the compound of the building.

Present to officiate the groundbreaking ceremony were X-FAB Silicon Foundries board of director member Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, X-FAB Group chief operating officer Dr Manfred Reimer, X-FAB Sarawak chief executive officer Robert Michael Young, Jurubina Unireka consulting architect Chai Long Sen and Hock Seng Lee Bhd executive director Simon Lau Kiing Kang.

According to Reimer, the time was ripe for the company to extend the X-FAB Sarawak building as to improve working conditions for its staff.

With the extension, X-FAB Sarawak will have more space which will also enable the building to have better facilities.

“It is getting somewhat crowded here and we noticed that. We hope with this extension, we can have a better working environment in the X-FAB Sarawak building in the not so distant future,” he said in his speech yesteday.

Construction for the project will begin next month and is scheduled to for completion by end of 2019.

Beside substantial renovation and upgrading of existing office space, the proposed new extension will see the inclusion of a singlestorey cafeteria and a specialty laboratory for precision equipment.

“This project will also increase the seated office capacity significantly.

“The project also involves upgrading approximately 4.3 acres of external infrastructure and landscaping works, including building a new arrival driveway leading to the new corporate office entrance and additional staff car parks,” said Reimer.

Hamid meanwhile hoped that the extension X-FAB Sarawak is not only for its administration office, but the plant as well as he is optimistic that the factory will only move forward and become the best in what they are doing.

Young commented that the construction project reflects not only the growing business and success of X-FAB Sarawak, but allows it to enhance the overall working environment that reflects the very high tech industry the company is involved in.
