KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg congratulated the state Barisan Nasional (BN) for its fine performance at the recent State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

According to him, the opposition was no match for BN as the former had nothing to talk about during the sitting.

Speaking during a dinner hosted by Sarawak BN Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) at a hotel here on Friday, he praised the BN representatives for their calibre when debating issues.

“I am also proud to note that our BN representatives are very intellectual because we have values, as we have proven to be better than the opposition. I therefore thank all of you for your fine effort,” he said.

During the sitting, Abang Johari further observed that the opposition did not really understand the state government’s policy on digital economy and the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS), based on the way they debated those issues.

The chief minister, who is BN Sarawak chairman, added that the opposition was totally surprised by his announcement of special incentives equivalent to one month’s basic salary – or a minimum of RM2,000 – for all state civil servants.

“They (the opposition) were surprised by that announcement. This special incentive is just one of the ways for the government to say thank you to all civil servants who have been working hard,” he said.

At the dinner, Abang Johari also highlighted government initiatives such as SarawakPay, which is on track to help the people in the not-so-distant future.

The chief minister stressed that the government had promised and would deliver all the initiatives that it had announced including the ‘Big Data’ – a centralised database system slated for roll-out in April next year.

Apart from Abang Johari and his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, DUN Sarawak Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and BNBBC Sarawak chairman Paulus Palu Gumbang were also present at the dinner event.

I am also proud to note that our BN representatives are very intellectual because we have values, as we have proven to be better than the opposition. I therefore thank all of you for your fine effort. — Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Chief Minister
