Poor Internet connectivity driving teachers up the wall

KUCHING: Poor Internet connectivity has been cited as the key cause of stress among teachers, according to a recent survey.

This is because in their line of work, they are expected to input various data such as students’ daily attendance via online, points out Minister for Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

“It would be very stressful for them whenever there is poor Internet connectivity,” she said yesterday, in commenting on the state budget that was announced at the just-concluded State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

In this regard, the minister was glad to note that the state had allocated RM500 million for digital infrastructure towards boosting Internet connectivity in the rural areas.

“The teachers, specifically the 352 serving in my state constituency (of Dalat), said high hopes on this,” she said.

Moreover, Fatimah was happy to note the allocation of RM1 billion under the state budget to spur the development in the state faster.

Of the RM1 billion, 70 per cent would be for development and 30 per cent for operations. Under the development segment, 53 per cent of the allocation would be go towards rural transformation.

“This sum is fitting because the rural areas still need more infrastructure development,” pointed out Fatimah.

The RM230-million for rural transformation programmes would ensure that all 71 state constituencies across the state would receive allocations for physical development.

“Not a single constituency would be left behind – each would get its own allocation.”

Another RM343 million in allocation would be slated for clean-treated water supply coverage, added Fatimah.

“I hope that my constituency of Dalat would benefit from all these allocations. Two villages – Kampung Klid with 58 households and Kampung Narub with 44 households – have yet to receive clean water supply, 24-hour electricity supply and road connectivity,” she added.
