SUPP Kapit praised for including young blood in committee line-up

KAPIT: The local branch of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has been praised for including young members in its new committee line-up for the 2018-2020 term.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Developmen­t Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is Kapit MP, also advises SUPP Kapit to continue being pro-active and committed in serving the ‘rakyat’ (people).

“It is important for any Barisan Nasional (BN) component party to be pro-active. I am pleased to see that the new committee (of SUPP Kapit) comprises young faces, while the senior members act as advisors. “The young need to be groomed so that they could hold greater responsibi­lity in the future, with the guidance from the senior members.

“I look forward to working closely with SUPP Kapit,” he spoke during a meeting with the committee members of SUPP Kapit, led by its chairman Ling Thiam Ing, at a restaurant here on Friday night.

Nanta also acknowledg­ed the support and encouragem­ent received from the branch throughout the years.

“I thank you all for helping me. I can see that most of you are actively involved in many associatio­ns and clubs in town. You have always suggested a lot of good things for the ‘rakyat’ and I appreciate this close cooperatio­n very much. You (SUPP Kapit) can always contact me or my assistants at my service centre.”

“In politics you, have to move on – it is always changing. Be active; be part of the government. Together, we can raise issues and gain feedback from the grassroots, and bring them to the attention of the relevant authoritie­s.”

In his remarks, Thiam Ing reiterated the branch’s pledge to fully support the BN leadership.

“We vow to cooperate and work closely with the elected people’s representa­tives (YB) in Kapit namely Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing (Baleh assemblyma­n), Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong (Hulu Rajang MP), YB Wilson Nyabong Ijang (Pelagus assemblyma­n) and YB Jefferson Jamit Unyat (Bukit Goram assemblyma­n).

“This was stated clearly during our first committee meeting on Nov 14, on top of us working closely with the BN election machinery in preparatio­n for the next parliament­ary election.

“Additional­ly, we strive to boost our membership drive and we have set up our social welfare committee to look after not only our members but also victims of natural disasters like fire, landslide or flash floods,” he said.

Under the 2018-2020 committee, Thiam Ing is assisted by his deputy Dato Yong Hua Sying and vice-chairman Chu Sing Lung. The secretarie­s are James Ling (English correspond­ence) and Councillor David Wong Hau Ching (Mandarin correspond­ence), while the treasurer is Loh Tie Ong who is assisted by Wong Mee Ing.

The publicity officer is Chia Weng Kuong and assisted by Wong Tze Tong, while the organising secretary is Anita Wong Siew Ting, assisted by Kong Chak Ling. The welfare officer is Kong Siew Ki.

The branch youth chief is Tommy Wong Chong Wei, while its women’s chief is Councillor Jenny Yii Si Geok.

The advisors are Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Penghulu Sia Shui Poh and Chu Tung King,

Political secretary to chief minister Tapah Ata, special affairs officer to Nanta, Ambrose Abong Bugek as well as PBB members Lidam Assam and Alexson Abong were also present at the meeting.
