‘Check accreditation status of training institutes’

-

SERIAN: Parents have been advised to check the accreditation status of institutes offering skills training courses before allowing their children to take up placements.

Minister of Human Resources Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem said parents must ensure the accreditation is recognised by the government.

“I know some of the children had been cheated because they had undergone skills training programmes at an institute that is not recognised by the Human Resources Ministry.

“Therefore these children, when they come back upon completing the training courses, could not find jobs because the certificates, the diplomas that the training provider produced were not recognised by the government,” he said when launching the Skills Education and Career programme here yesterday.

Riot said training with an unaccredited institute would just be a waste of time and money.

“My advice to parents and children is please pick the training providers that are chosen, that are registered with HRDF (Human Resources Development Fund), with the Skills Development Department, so that your certificates or diplomas are recognised,” he said.

Riot also stressed the importance of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as the world leaps forward to industry 4.0.

“Tvet is a game changer. The game changer for our future, the game changer for a nation, the game changer for our kids, the game changer for the people of Serian is to go for TVET,” he said.

He pointed out that the marketability rate of Tvet graduates is higher than those of institutes of higher learning (IPT) with 92 per cent of TVET graduates in Malaysia employed compared with 62 per cent from IPTs.
