DBKU: No business activities along five-foot ways from Jan next year

-

KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU) will fully enforce Article 26( 2)( a) of the Local Authorities ( Cleanliness) by-Laws, 1999 to prevent certain business activities at five- foot ways within its jurisdiction beginning Jan next year.

In a press statement yesterday, DBKU pointed out that any preparation and selling of food items at the five- foot way in areas under its jurisdiction without a permit would be strictly prohibited.

“The five-foot way is meant for lining up tables and chairs that has already been approved by DBKU. Such stringent enforcement aims at maintaining cleanliness of premises and their surrounding area,” said the statement.

The City Hall added that the move was also in tandem with making sure that food served would always be hygienic and up to standard.

It said the prohibition was also to make certain that the safety of pedestrians and members of the public was not at stake.

Individuals who are found guilty of infringing the regulation will face a fine of RM1,500 for the first offence followed by a RM3,000 fine or nine months imprisonment or both for subsequent offences.

As such, owners of premises or licence holders will be given a grace period of three months to abide by the regulation.
