Organised by a nongovernmental organisation Johor Empowerment of Intellectual Women Association (Jeiwa), the forum was facilitated by Airen Chittu, Noorlizawati Saadi and Arnizah Mohd Iskandar from Jeiwa.

It was moderated by Jeiwa founder/president Nor Fadilah Mohamed Nizar and also participated by Kuching Legal Aid Department, Syariah officer Halimatun Sa’adiah Mohd Mahdee.

“We hope to help women who suffer from domestic violence, both physically and mentally, to seek help and get out of the situation.

“Today is the first location outside Johor and we hope to move around Malaysia to create awareness,” said Nor Fadillah in an interview yesterday.

She said that the forum was a follow- up after the launching of Redlips by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim on Aug 18 at Persada Johor.

Aside from the forum, Jeiwa is also getting signatures from women throughout Malaysia to petition for an enforcement body for civil and syariah court orders.

The forum which included a question and answer session was participated by 200 people including those from outside Kuching.

Jeiwa has targeted to hold similar events in one densely populated area nationwide, in each quarter of next year.
