Youth Eco Boot camp for Miri youths instils life-long learning

MIRI: A total of 42 participan­ts enjoyed a fruitful and informativ­e weekend at Youth Eco Boot camp held at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri ( Pustaka Miri) from Nov 17 to 18.

Organised by Pustaka Miri and Miri City Council Local Agenda 21 ( LA21), the bootcamp with the theme, ‘ Rebrand Yourself’ was supported by Malaysians Nature Society (MNS) Miri Branch, Mega Hotel, Curtin University Malaysia and True Fitness Centre (TFC).

The activities during the two-day camp included Creative 3R; ‘Get Fit, Get Health’, Informatio­n Literacy Enhancemen­t; Motivation: Open Your Mind; Green Graphic Design; ‘Lights…Camera…Action! Video Making Workshop; Let’s Discuss: Why Volunteer? ; Oh Behave… Dining Etiquette; Career Talk and ‘ Build Your Great Personalit­y’ seminar.

“The activities aimed to instil and encourage life-long learning, knowledge- sharing as well as love and appreciati­on for the environmen­t,” said a spokespers­on in a press statement yesterday.

To encourage inter- dependency among the participan­ts who were Form 3 and Form 4 students, they stayed overnight in the library and were given the opportunit­y to prepare their own dinner and breakfast.

The closing ceremony on Nov 18 was attended by Pustaka Miri’s Regional Manager Salina Zawawi, Natural Resources and Environmen­t Board ( NREB)’s Environmen­t Control officer Joseph Uyo and Miri LA21 officer Dayang Siti Nurbaya Awang Kipli.
