Rotary Club of Bintulu Central project gives back-to-school essentials to 264 primary pupils

BINTULU: A total of 264 pupils from SK Desa Lavang Bintulu, SK Rh Tayai Tatau and SK Long Segaham Belaga received uniforms, schools bags, shoes and stationery under the Rotary Club of Bintulu Central ( RCBC) ‘Back to School 2018’ project.

The project was held in collaborat­ion with Yayasan Sime Darby and Rotary Club of Kuching Central.

According to the organising chairperso­n Linnie Lee, the project aimed at providing basic back-to-school needs for primary school students especially those in rural areas.

The presentati­on ceremony was held on Nov 13 at SK Desa Lavang, which was attended by representa­tives from Yayasan Sime Darby Muzdalifah Mohd Nasir, Irwan Fikri Hamzah and Farah Hani Khalid from Kuala Lumpur.

Rotary Club of Kuching Central was represente­d by its president Benjamin Lo and other Rotarians.

Lee said similar deliveries had been completed for SK Rh Tayai, Tatau on Nov 15 and SK Long Segaham, Belaga on Nov 18.

“Priority was given to rural schools because the primary education is essential for setting a good foundation for children’s further developmen­t.

“Education is not preparatio­n for life, education is life itself, let’s start impacting lives by what we give, and let’s start from our community,” said Lee.

At the same time, she extended her appreciati­on to the sponsors - Grandpine Capital Sdn Bhd for donating dictionari­es and English reading books and Popular Corner Food Centre for contributi­ng net balls, footballs, handballs and net.
