ILKBS 1M’sia Volunteer Programme helps shape youths positively

MIRI: It was a true display of ‘gotong-royong’ spirit here when several trainees from Miri Youth Skills Training Institute ( IKBN) took part in a work party programme to give Kampung Batu Satu, Kuala Baram here a facelift.

Also joining in the programme officiated by IKBN Miri deputy director Kigen Satong were Kampung Batu Satu Kuala Baram community leader Mohd Yusof Sulaiman, Miri Youth and Sports officer Stephanie Wendy Stamford, the village developmen­t and security committee (JKKK) members and youths and students from the institute.

“Through this volunteer programme, many local youths realised the importance of community service work in fostering better leadership skills and helping them become more responsibl­e members of the society,” Kigen told The Borneo Post during the Youth and Sports Ministry Training Institute ( ILKBS) Malaysia Volunteer Programme at Kampung Batu Satu in Kuala Baram recently.

Jointly organised by the Miri ILKBS and IKBN, the collaborat­ion was carried out under ILKBS Touch Point initiative.

Among the activities held during the programme was the refurbishm­ent of sports facilities such as the village multipurpo­se court.

“Apart from strengthen­ing relationsh­ip, it is also hoped that this programme would be able to arouse interest in healthy sports activities among the local community especially the youths.

“This programme also helps address social issues among today’s youth and impact them positively towards the developmen­t of the nation,” he added.

Kigen also expressed his gratitude to Senadin assemblyma­n Datuk Lee Kim Shin for giving them the space and opportunit­y to implement the social service programme.
