BINTULU: Parents have been urged to work closely with teachers in educating their children to ensure that they excel in their studies.

Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi said parents must play the parenting role effectively and follow up on their children's academic performance at school. He reiterated the importance of education as the key for future success especially for the younger generations who are the country’s future leaders.

He said for those living within the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy ( SCORE) area particularly in Bintulu, plenty of job and business opportunities await those who have the knowledge and skills.

“We cannot just become a bystander, we must participate in the development,” said Majang during the SK St Anthony Bintulu Co- Curriculum Excellence Award ceremony yesterday.

Also present were the school headmaster Francis Dampa and senior teachers.

Majang praised the parents who attended the ceremony saying it was a motivational factor for their children to achieve greater success.

“However parents cannot be too dependent on formal education in school as the only learning platform.

“It’s a lifelong process, which also starts at home and I hope parents also contribute by working closely with the school and teachers,” he added.

At the function, he announced RM8,000 allocation for SK St Anthony Bintulu.
