‘Auto’s TIV in Nov onwards should improve significantly’

KUCHING: Analysts project the automotive sector’s total industry volume (TIV) from November onwards to improve significantly given the launch of the new MyVi, which was the best selling model in the market for a decade before the Axia was launched.

The new MyVi is a feature packed, B-segment national carpriced model comparable to Japanese and European peers. Features include four to six airbags, keyless entry, push start, hill-start assist among others, leading to five-star ASEAN NCAP rating across the range.

Highest variants include advanced safety such as collision warning, (autonomous) collision braking and front- departure warning.

According to the research arm of MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Bhd (MIDF Research), Perodua has secured 5,000 bookings for the new MyVi prior to the launch on Thursday last week, with 78 per cent of bookings going towards the higher 1.5 litre variants with the remaining 22 per cent for the 1.3 litre variants.

It noted that as of Friday last week – one day after the launch – bookings have hit 6,000 units.

The research arm further saw that management targets to sell an average 6,000 units per month, which is over 30 per cent higher than the previous MyVi’s average monthly sales achieved as of the first half of 2017 (1H17).

“At 6,000 units per month, the MyVi would account for approximately 13 per cent of the industry’s monthly TIV,” it added in a note yesterday.

On another note, since MIDF Research’s last report, the ringgit has strengthened further to RM4.16 per US dollar and RM3.71 per 100 Japanese yen. This was a big positive for auto players under the research arm’s coverage and underpinned its bullish sector call.

BNM said the participants would select at least one of the challenges and created solutions to address terrorism financing issues effectively, as well as products that signify originality and ease of use.

“After a gruelling 32 hours of coding, the participants submitted their solutions with a short video explaining the use and relevance of the product to address the respective challenge, and the winners for the Codeathon team category included Overwatch – Blockchain Address Validation bagging A$5,000, 1st runner-up, SocialHash bringing home A$3,000 and 2nd runner-up winning A$1,000.

“The participants are invited to register for next year’s ASEANAustralia Codeathon, hosted by AUSTRAC in Sydney from March 14-15, 2018 in the week prior to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit and CounterTerrorism Conference,” it said.
