On the formation of the school’s old students association, he said it augured well for the school’s greater development.

“SJK( C) Uk Daik was built in 1926, but its old students association was only formed in June this year. The formation will definitely help to strengthen the school’s administration.

“When you are successful in your undertakings, you will become spokespersons for the school,” he told the school’s former students.

Wong also called for concerted efforts to ensure the continuation of Chinese education in the state.

“SJK(C) Uk Daik is one of the Chinese schools here having the most number of Bumiputera students, a sign of the parents’ confidence in the school,” he said.

On the RM3 million new school block, Wong said it was quite comprehensive in the provision of learning facilities.

The block houses two teachers’ rooms, a library, a conference room, principal’s office, a canteen, an administration office, four classrooms, and a computer room.

At the function, the school raised about RM300,000 for the building fund. Wong chipped in with a grant of RM30,000.

The school management board’s honorary chairman Datuk Tiong Su Kouk, board chairman Albert Lau, Dato Janet Lau, Lau Swee Nguong and acting divisional education officer Salemah Chali were among the more than 1,000 who attended the dinner.
