Sarawak Energy to commission 33kV indoor substation for Miri

-

MIRI: The Miri Town 33-kilovolt (kV) indoor substation is scheduled for commissioning by August next year.

Upon completion, it will reinforce power supply for the city’s central business district and to a larger extent, catering to the rapid expansion and rising demands from the people here.

HoweverSarawakEnergyBhd,in a recent statement, said the project is actually experiencing a delay due to certain circumstances.

“Sarawak Energy respects the rights of individuals and organisations to express their points of view, but we would appreciate if such action could be done in a lawful manner and would not jeopardise the safety of others, including our employees and contractors on site. In this regard, Sarawak Energy has issued a temporary stop work order for the approved (substation) project in the interest of the safety and security of all parties.

“Unfortunately, this has caused a delay in the project,” it said, adding that police reports had been lodged for the safety and security of its employees and contractor at the project site. “We will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure amicable and speedy resolution of this matter, and appeals to the land claimants to allow construction to resume as this is being pursued,” Sarawak Energy said, without disclosing the details of the said claims.
