SK Long Luteng PTA to receive RM10,000 govt grant

-

MIRI: The SK Long Luteng parent-teacher association ( PTA) will receive a government grant of RM10,000 to hold activities for the school.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau announced the grant during the school’s excellence awards ceremony recently.

In his speech, he reminded parents to prioritise the welfare and education of their children.

“Education is the catalyst for a better future. A more educated individual is more likely to have a job with a steady income or become more successful in business, allowing you to take greater control of your life,” he said.

Dennis pointed out that 400 schools in Sarawak are categorised as dilapidated.

“Thinking of the big number of schools and knowing the limited funds available, let me tell you to play your part in ensuring academic excellence for the school.

“With excellent academic results, especially in public examinations, the Education Department might consider that a critical point and place higher achieving schools as top priorities for distribution of limited school development funds.”

He said the 45-year- old primary school has contributed significantly to the betterment of the Penan community of Long Luteng and the surrounding longhouses.

“SK Long Luteng has played its role in providing elementary education and has in turn produced some educated persons over the years. A significant number of our younger generation from here are now able to land steady jobs in towns or cities,” he said.
