Teachers urged to acquire HOT, ICT skills
MIRI: Teachers are urged to equip themselves with communication skills, high order thinking ( HOT) and proficiency in information and communication technology ( ICT) to ensure the objective of the 21st century teaching and learning is achieved.
Miri education officer Dr Hassan Hasbollah said the teaching and learning in the 21st century is a challenge for teachers and has different features compared to past education strategies.
“The purpose of the 21st century learning is to produce students who are highly productive, proficient in communication, have high level of thinking and proficiency in ICT, thus teachers should equip themselves with these skills beforehand,” he said in a text of speech read by assistant supervisor of development and supply units of Miri education office Khashim Yusoff at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Bintang (SKJB) excellent students award ceremony here yesterday.
Its headmaster Ahmad Othman meanwhile thanked the parents and the parents’ support club ( KSIB) which has been very supportive in assisting the school’s activities.
“The strong collaboration between KSIB and the class teachers is the measure of success for a school and I hope that this collaboration will continue on,” he said adding the school has always been emphasising on students cognitive domain and now is also giving other schools a run for their money in the cocurriculum areas.
When asked to comment on the result of Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah ( UPSR) of the school, Ahmad said he was proud with the students’ achievement which was better than last year.
The UPSR result which was announced yesterday is one of the components in the Pelaporan Pentaksiran Sekolah Rendah and the other three components are Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah, Pentaksiran Aktiviti Jasmani, Sukan dan Kokurikulum and Pentaksiran Psikometrik with the exam this year no longer focusing on the students’ academic excellence, but also to see their holistic achievements.
At the ceremony yesterday, special education student Felicity Juti received the best PPKI cocurriculum award and Melvin Hendrick Lawrence won the best PPKI student award while primary 5 pupil Muhammad Haziq Zulkipli received the best KAFA student award.
Primary 6 pupils Kristen Chong Siew Yet received the Tokoh Kokurikulum award, Ariff Imran Zamry (Anugerah Pelajar Cemerlang) and Kimverly Wilson won the Tokoh Pelajar Cemerlang 2017.
Teacher Teo Hui Hua meanwhile was awarded with the ‘Guru Contoh 2017’.
Also present at the function were Parent-Teacher Association chairperson Mohd Farez Samin, senior assistant (administration) Henry Madai, senior assistant (student affairs) Nurmila Abdullah, senior assistant (special education) Suhaila Sabeh and senior assistant (co- curriculum) Henry Edward Tarang.
