Over 600 attend Malaysian Urological Conference

KUCHING: Over 600 delegates from across the globe are attending a 3- day 26th Annual Malaysian Urological Conference here.

Themed ‘ Precision Medicine in Urology’, the conference involves 56 local and international speakers.

In his speech for the launch yesterday, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the latest medical technology is now available to Sarawakians.

“Nowadays, you are very fortunate as whatever is the latest in Germany can be got in the jungles of Borneo the next day. This is how fast the speed of information and skills can be translated to any part of the world,” he said.

“I understand that 3D robotic surgery is here, which is something we have to look into. The public is expecting us to look in that direction. If we don’t keep up, we will be in trouble.”

Organising chairman Dr Khor Tze Wei said the conference’s theme reflects an individualised approach to disease prevention and treatment, a concept increasingly emphasised in daytoday urology practice.

“Precision medicine also means more precise surgery, as we had showcased in the live surgery workshop on Thursday,” he said.

Among those present at the event were Malaysian Urological Association president Datuk Dr Selvalingam, past presidents Dr Teh Guan Chou and Dr Clarence Lei, and scientific chairman Dr Chan Siew Hong.
