Awg Tengah: Mechanisms in place to develop Lingga

LINGGA: The proposed Batang Lupar Bridge will also become an important connection in the coastal road network, an alternativ­e to the Pan Borneo Highway and giving an option to motorists.

“Once completed, it will be the longest bridge in Sarawak at 5km long, stretching from Triso to Sebuyau,” said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan yesterday, when officiatin­g at the Lingga Festival 2017 at Kampung Lingga, Sri Aman.

The state government has allocated RM500 million, while the federal government will contribute another RM500 million for the project.

Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister of Urban Developmen­t and Natural Resources and Industrial and Entreprene­ur Developmen­t Minister, said that Lingga has plenty to look forward to in the near future with the mechanism in place to develop the area.

“Lingga Town will get 20 units of shophouses to be built in 2018. Currently, Pelita is identifyin­g a suitable location and the state government through my ministry has approved RM5 million for the project,” he said.

Also present were Assistant Minister for Coastal Roads Datuk Julaihi Narawi and Lingga assemblywo­man Simoi Peri.

Awang Tengah assured that both Julaihi and Simoi were committed to helping the people of Lingga, for as long as the people continue to support their leadership.

Lingga Festival 2017 has an exciting line up of activities including a regatta, karaoke competitio­n, golden voice competitio­n, fishing competitio­n and more. It runs from Nov 24 to 26.
