Emart Batu Kawa opens 24-hour air-conditioned fresh food market

-

KUCHING: Emart Batu Kawa’s Fresh Market has put together fresh food at reasonable wholesale prices for the convenience of their shoppers, in what is the city’s first indoor air-conditioned market.

According to Emart Group property senior manager Simon Lee, the reason why Emart is open 24 hours is because it has always wanted to establish a wholesale fresh market there for consumers’ convenience.

There are 30 stalls operational now, but Emart is on the lookout for operators to run the traditional ‘kopitiams’ (coffee shops), spice shops and fresh beef outlet.

“We choose our tenants and we monitor the ones that we have to make sure that they are up to our expectations,” said Lee when met after the launch of the fresh market yesterday.

He added that Emart would also control the prices of goods. Every Tuesday, from 3pm to 6pm, Emart would be holding its ‘Joyful Wholesale’ that focuses on creating joy by offering consumers the cheapest products in the market.

Meanwhile the existing morning and evening ‘tamu’ on the parking lot is running as usual, from 6am to noon and from 4pm to 10pm.

Lee said the evening ‘tamu’ is occupied; still, there are a few available lots open for small farmers to sell their produce.

The launch yesterday was also attended by Emart Group property advisor Chan Hiok San and Emart management representative Jong Sang Chin.
