Encourage students to be active in sports, schools advised
MARUDI: Schools should also encourage students to be actively involved in sports apart from the push towards academic excellence.
In this regard, Baram Education Officer Saripah Azizah Wan Hussein praised SMK Agama Miri, under the leadership of its principal Jumari Hassim, for fully supporting this call.
The school recently hosted the Inter-Secondary School Junior (Under-15) Handball 2017 tournament recently where the teams from SMK Tutoh Apoh won both the boys and girls categories, as well other major titles.
“I wish to thank the principal of SMK Agama Miri for providing the venue and facilities for the competition. Congratulations to the winners, and well done to the other teams — all of you have shown high level of good sportsmanship, athleticism and enthusiasm.
“We hope to see all of you next year,” she said at the closing ceremony.
Placed as first to third runnerup in the Boys category were teams from SMK Taman Tunku Kolej Tuanku Haji Bujang and SMK Tutoh Apoh B, respectively.

The Best Scorer awards went to Jehoshapat Lucy and Kimberly Kijan Robert, while the Best Players were Eric Deng and Celine Sarbini Osen — all four from SMK Tutoh Apoh.
Best Boy Keeper was Jamir Oyo of SMK Tutoh Apoh and while Best Girl Keeper was Noratasya Agan Andul Ghani of SMK Baru Miri.
