PM horrified by attack on al-Rawda mosque

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday said he was horrified by the terror attack at a mosque in Egypt on Friday which have killed 235 people.

“Horrified by the attack on innocent worshipper­s at alRawda mosque in Egypt. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones,” Najib said in his latest tweet yesterday.

Internatio­nal media reported that at least 300 worshipper­s were killed and 100 others were wounded in the terrorist attack on the mosque in North Sinai province, targeted during Friday prayers.

No groups have claimed responsibi­lity over the attack as yet.

The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that no Malaysians were affected in the attack.

Wisma Putra said in a statement yesterday that it is monitoring the situation closely and that the embassy of Malaysia in Cairo is in contact with the local authoritie­s.

It said the Malaysian government strongly condemned this cowardly attack.

“Malaysia also expresses its deepest condolence­s to the government and people of Egypt, and to the families of victims affected by the attack,” the ministry said.

The Ministry also reminds all Malaysian citizens in Egypt to remain vigilant at all times.
