#Kitalawan rally: Court frees activist Adam Adli of all charges

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday acquitted and discharged activist Adam Adli Abd Halim of all charges of participating in the # KitaLawan assembly two years ago.

Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid made the decision after finding the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against Adam Adli at the end of the prosecution’s case.

“After listening to the statements of the prosecution witnesses and studying the written and oral submissions of both parties as well as referring to the law, the court was satisfied that the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against the accused.

“As such, the person being summoned is acquitted and discharged without his defence called,” said Ahmad Solihin.

According to the charge, Adam Adli, 28 and Orange 13 chairman, Mohd Fariz Abd Talib @ Musa, 47, were charged together for joining the street protest which began in front of Sogo shopping complex in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and ended at the Esplanade in KLCC between 4pm and 7.30 pm on Feb 28, 2015.

They were charged under Section 4 ( 2) (c ) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, which carries a fine not exceeding RM10,000 upon conviction.

Prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim while Adam Adli was represented by counsel Latheefa Koya. — Bernama
