KR1M worker jailed a year for criminal breach of trust

-

SIBU: A former worker of Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia ( KR1M) was sentenced by the Sessions Court here yesterday to a year’s jail after he pleaded guilty to 34 charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT) totalling RM356.73.

Azlee Hasim, 28, was sentenced to a year’s jail for each charge.

Judge Caroline Bee Majanil ordered that the sentences to run concurrently.

Azlee embezzled a total of RM356.73 from a KR1M outlet here between Aug 10 and Sept 3.

He was then working as the retail assistant, entrusted to handle the cashier’s counter, accept payments from customers and issue receipt for each purchase.

It is said that he had misappropriated RM356.73 for his personal use without the knowledge of his employer.

Azlee, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency saying that he felt remorse over his wrongdoing and that it was his first offence.

He appealed to have the custodial sentences running concurrently.

Prosecutor Mohamad Zulfadhli Tuah, on the other hand, told the court that the wrongdoing was repeated many times, causing losses to the KR1M.

All the charges were framed under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of not less than one year and not more than 14 years, and liable to whipping and fine upon conviction.
