Bowling meet to celebrate IDPD

KUCHING: Persatuan Tenpin Boling Para Negeri Sarawak ( PTBPNS) will be organising a bowling tournament at Megalanes, Emart Batu Kawa on Dec 3 to celebrate the Internatio­nal Day of Persons with Disabiliti­es ( IDPD).

“Dec 3 has been proclaimed as the Internatio­nal Day of Persons with Disabiliti­es. This year, the theme is ‘ Transforma­tion towards sustainabl­e and resilient society for all,” said PTBPNS president Dunstan Lim.

He said IDPD is aimed at promoting the rights and wellbeing of persons with disabiliti­es in all spheres of society and developmen­t, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabiliti­es in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

Besides the bowling tournament, the Paralimpia­d 2016 and Para Asean 2017 athletes would also be competing against able-bodied bowlers for the prizes which would be divided into a few categories.

Li mis appealing to the corporate sector, government agencies and the general public to come forward to take part and support the initiative­s of PTBPNS.

“It is a good time for corporate bodies and government agencies to fulfill their Corporate Social Responsibi­lity ( CSR) objective while at the same time getting to know the disabled community better,” he added.

With the full support of Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Negeri Sarawak and UNICEF Malaysia who are co- organisers of the IDPD Sarawak, there will be a mini exhibition cum demonstrat­ion by various disabled persons’ organisati­ons to inform members of the public about their services next to the bowling alleys.

A basic sign language class, reading games and teaching aids for those with learning dif ficulties, and informatio­n on web accessibi lity for the visually impaired are some of the highlights.

Members of the public can also expect to see and purchase many beautiful craft works and household utility items made by various disabled persons’ organisati­ons.

A drawing and colouring contest for chi ldren wi th disabi lities as wel l as those without disabiliti­es will be one of fun- filled activities.

Persatuan Sukan dan Rekreasi Orang Kurang Upaya Negeri Sarawak ( Pesron) will have a booth doing general classifica­tion of potential athletes for the respective sports.

PTBPNS extended its thanks to Megalanes Sarawak for the use of their premises and being always supportive of the efforts by the Para members.
