KUCHING: State Reform Party (STAR) Sarawak is ready to debate with Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 ( MA63).

Its president Lina Soo said she had written a letter dated Nov 29 to Pandikar and hoped he would respond.

“We will use this debate as a good platform and a chance to educate the public more on MA63 and we believe it would be a worthy debate with the Speaker as not many people know of the agreement signed between Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah,” Soo told a press conference yesterday.

Pandikar had said he would debate MA63 with his critics outside of Parliament.

According to him, Sabah and Sarawak cannot claim to have equal status as Malaya.

Soo said she and other party members were delighted with Pandikar’s willingness to debate at any place and time.

“In fact, I also told him that we applaud his gallantry and valour for being a rare Malaysian politician today who wants to debate on MA63 and that as the party president of STAR, we offer to take the challenge,” she said.

Soo said she proposed the debate be held in English at 2.30pm on either Jan 13, 20, or 27 in Kuala Lumpur at a venue of Pandikar’s choice.

She added that Kuala Lumpur was chosen for greater media coverage.

“I hope Pandikar Amin will accept our challenge and give us the confirmation and a satisfactory reply soon,” she said.
