Paca course draws 25 prospective volunteers for general election

-

MIRI: A total of 25 individuals from Miri, Sibuti and Niah took part in a Polling Agent and Counting Agent ( Paca) training course held here last week.

The two- day course was initiated by the Dayak Think Tank Group ( DTTG) in collaboration with Rise of Sarawak Efforts ( ROSE), to prepare those interested in becoming a trained Paca.

The training course was open to the public, irrespective of race or political affilliation, as long as they are registered voters.

DTTG Women chief Christina Kelit said the course trained participants to understand the roles of a Paca before applying to become a Paca volunteer for the coming general election.

“The training is also aimed at exposing the participants to what they can and cannot do, apart from equipping them with related knowledge that they need to know before becoming a Paca.

“At the same time, we are also looking for new Paca to provide them the opportunity and experience, and to help them carry out their task responsibly to ensure a good, just and clean election,” she told The Borneo Post yesterday.

The majority of those who attended the training were those interested in becoming a Paca in Sibuti parliamentary area, added Christina.

“A Paca must be well trained as this is the key in ensuring a fair win to any party contesting in the 14th general election, as these Paca will be tasked to ensure there is no corruption during the election.”

Five ROSE personnel conducted the training and provided participants with the needed guidelines.
