Vice-president Song Hua Hung explained that the society has no income as most members are senior citizens.

“We’re very fortunate we have many professionals, healthcare and social workers willing to lend us a helping hand to organise activities, but we’re constrained by a lack of financial means,” he said when receiving a RM5,000 grant from Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi represented by Bukit Goram Assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat recently.

elected representatives and corporate firms or generous individuals in and around Sibu would be willing to assist us also.”

Song said the society’s regular activities included health talks and free neurologist consultations once every two months; daily physiotherapy and movement therapy; tai chi and water therapy exercises at Delta Pool; family visits for moral support; as well as periodical examination and counselling at Sibu Hospital and the Welfare Department.

Jamit also pledged a grant of RM5,000 from his allocation for the society next year.

“The Society is doing a good job to serve as a platform to register patients suffering from Parkinson’s Disease in and around Sibu and Kapit districts.

“They run activities for the patients and that is why we as elected representatives are willing to assist,” said Jamit.

The society also holds music sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

It has over 120 registered members from Sibu and Kapit.
