SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is ready to issue more food truck licences having already approved licences for eight such operators, according to its Market and Petty Traders Standing Committee chairperson Wong Hie Ping.

She told a monthly full council meeting yesterday that some of the eight licence holders have yet to commence business as they are waiting for approval from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for the use of their food trucks.

Wong added that the council is still accepting applications for food truck licence.

Just submit your menu to the council, and obtain approval from JPJ for the use of your food truck.

“Just submit your menu to the council, and obtain approval from JPJ for the use of your food truck,” she advised prospective operators.

She said the council has identified eight locations, mostly in the vicinity of the Chuang Corridor and Khoo Peng Loong Road, for the food truck operators.

“These are the designated locations, but operators wishing to trade at function venues may (also) apply.”

Meanwhile, the council has rescheduled the date for contestants of its annual Christmas Tree Contest to decorate their entries at Sibu Town Square Phase 1 to Dec 4 at 2pm.

The ceremony to light up the Christmas trees will now be held on Dec 10 instead of Dec 8 as initially fixed.

The Christmas trees will be on display until Dec 31.

The top three winners of the contest will bag RM2,000, RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively, while the rest of the participants will each receive RM300 as consolation.

The winners will be announced during the New Year countdown.
