Enjoy Pahang culinary delights at Coffee Terrace, Resorts World Genting

-

KUCHING: The many charms of Pahang include culinary delights and to truly experience this east coast state’s rich heritage means trying out the authentic dishes that are unique to it.

But one does not have to travel all the way to hidden pockets of Pahang to enjoy traditional dishes like Ikan Patin Tempoyak ( juicy patin fish cooked in curry made of fermented durian), or Nasi Kebuli (rice cooked with coconut oil mixed with chicken or lamb, raisins, olives, clovers and lemongrass).

These dishes are included in the sumptuous buffet spread at Coffee Terrace in Genting Grand, Resorts World Genting as part of the Pahang food promotion from Dec 8 to 17, 2017.

Available for buffet lunch and buffet dinner, it is priced only at RM48 nett (adult) and RM24 nett (child) for lunch, and RM82 nett (adult) and RM41 nett (child) for dinner.

Themed ‘ Taste of Darul Makmur, Hogoh Pahang!’ the food promotion is held in conjunction with Visit Pahang Year 2017 and 2018.

This important event in the state’s calendar celebrates its success as a popular holiday destination — one that has attracted more than two million tourists from all around the world this year alone.

As Resorts World Genting is located in Pahang, it is only fitting that the resort should have a celebration to mark Visit Pahang Year — and what better way if not by presenting the best of the state’s hearty fare.

During the promotion, the buffet spread at Coffee Terrace will showcase a delectable array of authentic Pahang dishes as interpreted by executive chef of Genting Grand, Chef Tan Hang, and sous chef Chef Wino Wong.

For this special occasion, the chefs aspire to stay true to the essence of traditional Pahang fare in order to present diners an authentic ‘ Taste of Darul Makmur, Hogoh Pahang!’ experience.

To recreate the uniquely Pahang atmosphere, artefacts from the Federal Museum of Pekan enjoy pride of place at Coffee Terrace, courtesy of Pahang State Museum board director Datuk Ahmad Farid Abdul Jalal.

Fourteen original artefacts from the museum will be on display, including moulds traditionally used to make kuih ( bite- sized snack) and various kitchen implements.

Food, however, is the focal point, and according to the chefs, there are some dishes that diners simply must try among which are the famous Ikan Patin Tempoyak and Nasi Kebuli, Sambal Hitam ( hot relish made with vegetables and spices) and Daging Opor (meat dish cooked and braised in coconut milk) for a satisfying meal.

The chefs’ recommendation when it comes to desserts is Puding DiRaja or Royal Pudding, a dessert said to have once been reserved only for royalty.

Served cold, the pudding offers the contrasting flavours provided by bananas, cherries, prunes and cashew nuts. It is then dressed with Jala Mas, a golden thread made from duck egg yolks and sugar.

These dishes, however, are only a few of the many traditional fare featured on the buffet spread that promises variety and value for money. Appetisers like Keropok Lekor, Keropok Ikan, Keropok Udang and salads like Kerabu Daging, Kerabu Pucuk Paku, and Kerabu Kerang and Taugeh are also available to provide an idea of what people in Pahang traditionally enjoy.

There are two options of soup — Tulang Rusuk and Sup Kambing Berempah, while at the Carving Station, diners can enjoy Ayam Golek Bermadu and Kambing Bakar.

Main hot dishes on the spread include Daging Singang, Gulai Lemak Siput, Gulai Asam Rong, Udang Sambal Petai, Udang Lemak Cendawan Tiram, and Hati Ayam Kacang Panjang Sambal.

And to wrap up the meal on a sweet note, other than Pudding DiRaja, options include Kueh Lompat Tikam, Sira Labu and Pengat Nangka.

Coffee Terrace which is wellknown for its buffet spread features an open-kitchen concept and ordinarily serves five cuisines; namely Flavours of Malaysia, Chinese, Western, Japanese and Western Asian.

The restaurant can accommodate some 668 guests and has a private dining room that can seat up to 80. There’s also an al fresco area for those wanting to enjoy scenic mountain views while they dine.

Buffet lunch at the restaurant is available from 12pm to 2.30pm, while buffet dinner is served from 5pm to 9.30pm.
