Digital economy picked as theme for Sarawak Civil Service Day 2017 do

KUCHING: The state government will host a ‘Civil Service Day’ celebratio­n at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching ( BCCK) this Dec 13, running from 9am to 1pm.

State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani said the event – the highlight of the state’s ‘Civil Service Day’ programmes – would have Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg officiatin­g at the opening ceremony in the presence of around 5,000 civil servants from both state and federal department­s, statutory bodies and government­linked companies (GLCs), as well as those from non- government­al organisati­ons ( NGOs) and the private sector.

“This year’s Civil Service Day is themed ‘ Digital Government Driving Digital Economy’ (# sDGOV), which emphasises on the state’s digital initiative inspired by the chief minister,” he told a press conference at BCCK yesterday.

In addition to the launch, Morshidi said Abang Johari would also launch the Sarawak Multimedia Authority ( SMA) as well as Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy 2018 – a document that outlines the digital initiative­s

to drive the state towards an advanced state based on digital economy.

Morshidi pointed out that there would also be a presentati­on of three awards – the Financial Management Excellence Award based on the Accountabi­lity Index for 2016, the State Civil Service Quality Award, and Civil Service Day Exemplary Officer Award for both state and federal department­s.

“For the Financial Management Excellence Award based on the Accountabi­lity Index for 2016, 13 state agencies will be receiving it; the Civil Service Day Exemplary Officer Award will be awarded to eight exemplary recipients representi­ng state and federal agencies in four categories,” he said.

On the State Civil Service Quality Award, Morshidi said it would also include the Chief Minister’s Award – an honour presented once every two years.

“A total of 22 agencies will receive the Chief Minister’s Award and the State Civil Service Quality Award this year.”

Apart from that, there would also be an SMA and Digital Economy Strategy Exhibition on Dec 13 and 14, open from 9am to 5pm daily.

“This exhibition, which is open to public, will showcase the state’s digital strategies such as Sarawak Pay and Sarawak ID, in addition to exhibits from the service providers and private sectors such as Telekom Malaysia, Sacofa, Centre of Technical Excellence (Centexs) and Huawei.”

Deputy State Secretarie­s Datu Ismawi Ismuni and Datu Jaul Samion, Federal Secretary Dato Mansor Man, and Chief Minister’s Department Human Resource Unit director Datu William Patrick Nyigor were also present at the press conference.
