Villagers to meet contractor for updates on drainage works

SIBU: Kampung Jeriah’s special task committee, formed to monitor the implementa­tion of a drainage improvemen­t works at the village here, will be meeting the project contractor soon to get more informatio­n about the proposed project.

Advisor Zaiton Abdul Kader said the committee had decided during a meeting last Saturday to see the contractor and fi nd out know more about the project.

Zaiton – the councillor in-charge of Jeriah Zone — pointed out that Kampung Jeriah residents are facing flooding issues and hence, it is the committee’s job to ensure that the people would know that the government is helping them to overcome the problem.

She advised the residents to be patient as improvemen­t works would commenced soon.

Recently, it was reported that the state government through the Department of Irrigation and Drainage ( DID) had secured a funding amounting to RM8 million under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) for the drainage improvemen­t works at Kampung Jeriah.

According to DID Sarawak director Chok Moi Soon, the project would be implemente­d under the urban drainage programme.

Chok had said the project had been awarded to M/S Hock Seng Lee Bhd, with the constructi­on period of 18 months. The project is to commence on Dec 18 this year, and scheduled for completion by June 2019. Chok disclosed that his department had submitted a proposal to the state government for Phase 2 of Kampung Jeriah drainage project, costing RM12 million.
