Security at 2017 Umno general assembly stepped up

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Security at all entry/exit points of Dewan Merdeka at the Putra World Trade Centre ( PWTC) during the five- day 2017 Umno General Assembly, which begins today, will be stepped up.

Umno executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the 2017 Umno General Assembly Working Committee would monitor security at the premises to ensure smooth running of the assembly, as well as to avoid any untoward incident.

“So far, preparations are more than 90 per cent completed, including placing equipment for two levels of scanning for prohibited items and authenticity of identification tags at the entrance to the hall.

“The scanning equipment is not something new, as it has been used since four years ago,” he told reporters after observing the final preparations for the assembly here yesterday.

Meanwhile, he advised delegates attending the assembly to observe all the rules and instructions issued by the secretariat to facilitate the smooth running of the assembly.

He said about 10,000 food packs would be provided daily to the Umno delegates and observers, guests and media practitioners during the five-day assembly.

“We estimate more than 50,000 food packs will be provided throughout the assembly and for visitors, we have hired food truck operators selected by the secretariat,” he said. — Bernama
