Customs seizes 805 cartons o�� liquor believed smuggled worth RM192,000

ALOR SETAR: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department on Nov 29 seized 805 cartons of liquor worth RM192,000 that were believed to have been smuggled into the country through four separate locations in Perak.

Its director Datuk Johari Alifiah said based on public tip- off, a Customs team conducted four raids, first at an auto workshop at Persiaran Perindustr­ian Chandan Raya 1/1, Chandan Raya Industrial Zone, Menglembu, Perak around 7.45pm and found 150 cartons (1,800 litres) of Heiniken in a lorry.

A local man in his 40s was detained and a further search at the workshop found another 250 cartons ( 3,000 litres) in a lorry; three men in their 40s and 50s, were also detained.

The third raid was conducted around 9 pm at a vacant house in Taman Rasi Jaya, Menglembu where 180 cartons (2,239.68 litres) of assorted liquor were found.

The last raid was conducted at a vacant house in Taman Pengkalan, Ipoh where 225 cartons ( 2,700 litres) of assorted liquor were found.

These were brought back to the state Customs office for further investigat­ion, he told reporters here yesterday.
