Tenby students receive awards for being tops in world, country, excellent results

MIRI: Fifteen students from Tenby Schools Malaysia received prestigiou­s awards from Cambridge Assessment Internatio­nal Education for excelling in the Internatio­nal General Certificat­e of Secondary Education ( IGCSE) and A-Levels June 2017 Cambridge examinatio­n series.

Tenby Schools in a statement yesterday said the students’ performanc­es were recognised under three categories of awards: Top in the World, Top in Malaysia and High Achievemen­t.

Abigail Chang Ying Jie took three awards: Top in the World for IGCSE Drama and Top in Malaysia for IGCSE Biology and Geography.

Five students were Top in the World for IGCSE Mathematic­s. They are Chan Ze Qi, Chang Jin Ying, Cheryl Yee Zheng Mun, Daniel Sim Chee Chien and Kok San Jet.

Top in the World awards were also received by Megan Lee Min Yi, Sarah Ch’Ng Shi Yin and Tan Jia Yong for IGCSE Foreign Language Mandarin Chinese, Julia Elisa Haglsperge­r ( IGCSE Foreign Language German) and Lim Jia Ming ( IGCSE Additional Mathematic­s).

The Top in Malaysia Award was presented to James Michael Zen Velten for AS Level Geography and Khoo Xin Hui (IGCSE Foreign Language Malay).

Elise Ching Sze Lin and Lydia Heng Soon Yi walked off with the High Achievemen­t awards for AS Level Global Perspectiv­e & Research and AS Level English Language respective­ly.

The Outstandin­g Cambridge Learner Awards celebrates the success of learners taking Cambridge examinatio­ns in over 10,000 schools around the world. Cambridge places learners at the centre of their internatio­nal education programmes and qualificat­ions which are inspired by the best in educationa­l thinking.

The CEO of Tenby Schools Malaysia, Mark Parkinson said: “These awards recognise the talent, dedication and commitment of our students.

“It is especially pleasing to recognise that these top achievers often exhibited other passions, skills and pursuits beyond academics. We aim to develop our pupils holistical­ly so they develop as well-rounded young people, ready to excel in the world.”

Mark applauded teachers of Tenby’s schools for their hard work and dedication as reflected in these students’ achievemen­ts.

The students received their Outstandin­g Cambridge Learner awards on Nov 27 at Hotel Armada Petaling Jaya, hosted by the Cambridge Assessment Internatio­nal Education.

Tenby Schools Malaysia welcomed the recognitio­n with pride following the brilliant performanc­e in the recent examinatio­n results by the Ipoh, Penang, Setia Eco Park and Miri campuses that achieved an overall 72 percent grade A* to C in A Levels, and 91 percent grade A* to C in IGCSE.

All campuses anticipate more successes in the future.
