UTP wants to be centre for new knowledge

-

SERI ISKANDAR: Universiti Teknologi Petronas ( UTP) wants to be a centre for creating and disseminating new knowledge other than aspiring to be a driving force of research for the nation.

UTP’s Covering ViceChancellor Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said by achieving that target, the university would become an internationally recognised partner of choice for industry and respected scientifically community by 2025.

“In striving towards global prominence, we remain steadfast in the principle of integrity, professionalism, cohesiveness and loyalty as we nurture a culture of support, inspiration, contribution and sharing within our university,” he said.

Mohamed Ibrahim said this in his speech before the Royal Address entitled, ‘ Building a Dynamic and Inclusive Education Ecosystem’ by Sultan Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah at the UTP here yesterday, in conjunction with the university’s 20th anniversary.

He noted that from the beginning, UTP which was officially established on Jan 10, 1997, had a vision to be a leader in technology education, as well as a centre for creativity and innovation.

“Now celebrating 20 years, a significant landmark in the history of this university, we have achieved so much and transformed so many lives.

“Every one of our successes, achievement, commendation and recognition affirm that we are taking the right step and are making good headway towards our goals,” he said.

Commenting on yesterday’s event, Mohamed Ibrahim said it would be a valuable forum for knowledge sharing between Sultan Nazrin who was known as intellectual and knowledgeable, with the university community on recent issues.

“The knowledge and information gained from this session complement and enhance what the students obtain within the classroom and formal education besides providing better insight of national and global issues for lecturer and staff,” he said. — Bernama
