JKR truck brings water to village as temporary relief

KUCHING: Residents of Kampung Taee in Serian who have been facing water shortage for three consecutive days from Monday gave a sigh of relief yesterday when a Public Works Department (JKR) truck came to the village to distribute the much awaited water.

A resident who wished to be identified as Joseph said they had been experiencing all sorts of difficulties without water.

He thanked JKR for bringing water to them yesterday but said it was not enough to ease the difficulties faced by the villagers as the water shortage often occurred at certain times of the year.

As for the water shortage the last three days, he hoped the Rural Area Water Supply Department (JBALB) could trace the source and repair it quickly.

“JBALB explained that water supply to the village was disrupted because two pipes burst on Monday and Tuesday. Even after the two pipes had been fixed, villagers are still without treated or piped water supply and the department is looking for other possible causes. It did not say when the leak would be fixed,” he said.

He said villagers are now fed up with the same explanation given by JKR and JBALB whenever water shortage happened and all they want was for the fault to be mended and the water supply resumed.

To drive his point home, Joseph posted photographs of pails and containers placed in front of one of the houses in the village to collect water from the truck.
