MCC asked to trim overgrown bamboo obstructing views

-

MIRI: Miri City Council ( MCC) has been called to trim the bamboo planted at Highstreet Road which has become overgrown.

Motorist Bujang Suhaili who contacted The Borneo Post yesterday said the lack of maintenance has resulted in the plants crowding a section of the road.

“Luckily when I changed direction to avoid the overgrown bamboo I did not knock down a pedestrian crossing the area. Can the authorities concerned do something before any untoward incident happens as these overgrown and tall bamboo planted in the middle of the road have not been cut and are becoming a blind spot for road users,” he complained.

According to Bujang, the bamboo was part of the landscape design for the temporary handicraft centre, which has since moved to a new building and resulted in a lack of maintenance for the area.

“I hope MCC can do something to ensure Miri City looks clean and beautiful with its landscaping and plants being taken care of regularly and not left to grow out of control,” he added.

Pedestrian Julis Kameh agreed that the authorities concerned should trim or cut down the bamboo.

“People will look at it as a bad impression – that the city has not maintained its landscaping – thus something should be done,” he said.

When contacted, MCC landscaping department spokesperson Chee Kee Chang said the council will address the complaints immediately.

He said landscape workers will be assigned to the area soon.
