Police disperse peaceful demonstration by S4S
KUCHING: A peaceful demonstration by Sarawak For Sarawakians ( S4S) was dispersed by the police after the members congregated for about half an hour in the vicinity of Darul Hana bridge at Square Tower in the Kuching Waterfront yesterday.
Kuching City Police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai who called off the demonstration personally said it had to be stopped as the organiser did not have a permit.
“We informed the demonstrators to disperse as they are obstructing the busy road in the area and they immediately abided by our instruction to do so,” he told The Borneo Post when met at the venue yesterday.
Abang Ahmad said that the police will take action against the organiser as it is unlawful to demonstrate without a proper permit in a public place.
S4S spokesperson Chan Chee Hiong earlier told reporters that the objective of carrying out the peaceful demonstration was to once again remind the federal government to respect the Malaysia Agreement of 1963 ( MA63).
“We want our own autonomy and ask for what is rightfully ours in accordance with MA63 agreement and we do not want anything more or less except what was enshrined in the agreement,” he said.
“Please be sincere in giving us back what was stated in the agreement which was signed by the representatives of Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah,” he added.
Chan went on to say that the foolish act of the Parliament Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin in belittling the MA63 has caused chaos and condemned by nitizens in social media and website.
“Now that we have reminded the Federal Government to implement the rights of Sarawak as in MA63 before the 14th General Election and we cannot wait much longer as Sarawakians are not going to trust any verbal promises,” he lamented.
“I am convinced that Sarawakians are wise and smart enough to judge and give their ‘ valuable votes’ to the political parties of their choice. It is their rights, it’s their votes,” explained Chan further.
