Kenyalang Cycling Expedition convoy makes third stop in Sibu

SIBU: The Border Regiment’s Kenyalang Cycling Expedition convoy on a ‘Jiwa Murni’ project made its third stop yesterday at SK Batu 15 hostel, Mile 15th Oya Road here.

Chief- of-Staff of the 31st Brigade Headquarte­rs Lt. Col. Mohd Zaini Hashim and Commanding Officer of the 9th Border Regiment Lt. Col. Zaidi Ahmad were on hand to welcome them. Also there were the Project Co- Ordinator of Junaco Park National Service Training Camp Khiu Siong Hii and SK Batu 15 hostel supervisor Maimon Jublie.

According to Mohd Zaini, the expedition among others aimed at introducin­g Border Regiment especially among the local youths with the objective of attracting them to join the Border Regiment.

“Besides, it provides opportunit­y to the participat­ing cyclists to personally experience the Sarawak terrain throughout their journey,” he said.

He added: “It is a platform for these cyclists to know the local people and to foster closer relationsh­ip with them.”

Mohd Zaini said the inaugural 10-day expedition began on Dec 5 at Sg Tujuh Customs, Immigratio­n and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Miri and will end at Tanjung Datu near Kuching on Dec 15.

Meanwhile, Zaidi said as they make their way throughout the 988km cycling expedition they carry out their ‘Jiwa Murni’ project at the selected locations.

“The cycling expedition is also to strengthen team work among the participan­ts while testing their endurance,” he pointed out.

While at SK Batu 15 hostel, the cyclists painted the hostel walls and cleared the compound. Dudong assemblyma­n Datuk Tiong Thai King sponsored the paint and tools for painting the hostel.
