KUCHING: Heriot-Watt University was recently named International University of the Year by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 - the first recipient in this new category of awards regarded as the most authoritative in the UK.

According to a press statement from the university, this is in recognition of its global presence with five campuses altogether in the UK, Dubai and Malaysia; partners in 150 countries; and over 30,000 students worldwide.

“With high quality, new campuses in Malaysia and Dubai, Heriot-Watt students have opportunities to study abroad - the overseas campuses also provide openings for Malaysian students to experience Edinburgh first hand.

“More than most, Heriot-Watt has embraced the worldview that marks out the fi nest higher education, making it our International University of the Year,” stated the Sunday Times Good University Guide editor Alastair McCall.

In celebration of this prestigious award, Heriot-Watt University is offering those who enrol for its January 2018 intake a complimentary two-week study trip to Edinburgh via its Experience Edinburgh programme.

Anyone interested in this programme organised by the university is encouraged to register by Dec 22, 2017 to qualify.

This is in conjunction with Heriot-Watt’s initiative as a global university that provides quality education and international exposure to students.

“Having an international qualification would widen my scope of opportunities at a global level,” said Heriot-Watt University Malaysia campus student Nur Syahira Yahya.

Syahira, who is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, said studying at the university is pivotal in broadening the horizon for her future pursuits.

When asked on her choice of Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, Syahira replied: “It offers the programme that I want to pursue in a different kind of environment, whereby I can benefit from the best of British curriculum in a local environment which I find more conducive.”

Syahira believes she is ready for her future with the exposure from her degree.

“The course I am pursuing has a wide scope of applications and it can help me choose the career that suit me most,” she added.

Heriot-Watt University is ranked among the top 50 universities in the world for international outlook, according to World University Rankings 2018.

In addition, it is also the fi fth in the UK for Chemical Engineering based on The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.
