Society to host nature event as part of 10th anniversary programmes
KUCHING: The Society of Wilderness Sarawak (SOW Sarawak) is organising a nature event themed ‘Into the Wilderness’.
According to a spokesperson, the event is scheduled to take place at Sama Jaya Forest Park in Stutong here on Dec 17, running from 8.30am to 5.30pm.
It is learnt that the event is part of activities to mark SOW Sarawak’s 10th anniversary celebration – the society was established in 2007 to promote environmental education to members of the public.
“This event is also supported by Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) to cultivate appreciation for nature and the rainforest in the local community and also promote public participation in caring for the environment,” said the spokesperson, adding that among activities scheduled for the day are guided nature walks, exhibitions and public talks.
The public sharing-sessions will revolve around these themes: ‘The Story of Sama Jaya Nature Reserve’, ‘Trickery at the Rainforest: Hiding, Camouflage, Mimicry’, and ‘Eating in the Rainforest: What Animals and Plants Eat’.
There will also be an exhibition set up by the SFC and together with volunteers from Chung Hua Middle School No 4.
